writers do when they choose a setting for their story? Empty writers do when they choose a setting for their story?

It takes a LOT of research. Unless you can afford to travel to the city and see it for yourself--and most writers don't have that kind of money--you research as much as you can about your setting. It's even better to get firsthand accounts of what the city/town is like from people who live there. Makes it more vivid.

The primary reason writers do this is 1; to get the details right and make their story believable, and 2; so that they don't offend anyone in the town with claims made in the book. "Forks Washington is full of gangs!" Yeah. Do the research. ;)

Choosing the city depends on what role it plays in your story. Stephenie Meyer chose Forks because it was a quiet, rainy place that was known for constant cloudy days. Her vampires wouldn't have be hiding from the sun all the time. Etc. Hope this helps ^
